Adjunct Faculty, Geographic Information Systems - Austin Community College District Location: Austin, Texas Position Type: Part-Time Adjunct Faculty Position ID: R-8750 Number of Openings: 2 Application Deadline: August 31, 2026 Austin Community College District is hiring an Adjunct Faculty member responsible for preparing and delivering Geographic Information Systems (GIS) coursework in engaging, innovative, and discipline-appropriate ways that reflect a commitment to student success and creating an environment that promotes belonging for all. Principal Responsibilities: - Teach GIS courses to diverse populations using approved learning outcomes and appropriate instructional strategies - Evaluate student progress with timely, clear feedback aligned to program standards - Provide mentoring without discrimination based on protected categories - Maintain current field knowledge through professional development - Demonstrate proficiency with computer applications, online resources, and learning management systems like Blackboard - Meet attendance certification deadlines and submit grades on schedule - Maintain regular office hours and comply with college policies Required Education: Bachelor's degree in geospatial or earth science field plus three years non-teaching GIS work experience, OR Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in geography/geospatial coursework (per SACSCOC standards) Required Experience: Three years of non-teaching GIS work experience Desired Qualifications: - Mastery of GIS subject matter and relevant topics and issues in the teaching discipline - Demonstrated proficiency using GIS programs, computer applications, classroom or other current learning technologies for effective teaching at the community college level - Effective communication skills Benefits: Full-time/part-time employees become eligible for medical, dental, life insurance, disability coverage, and retirement plans (TRS or ORP) after 60 days.
