NOAA's National Ocean Service, Office of Coast Survey is seeking Cartographers at the ZP 2-3 grade level (equivalent to GS-07/09 and GS-11/12) in Silver Spring, MD with seven vacancies. Candidates will interpret and apply a wide variety of cartographic and mapping data using geographic information system (GIS) software to maintain the national navigational database for nautical charts. Additional duties include researching historical charting records, transforming mapping data using map projections and datums, and reviewing work for compliance with standards. Required education: Bachelor's degree in cartography or equivalent with at least 30 semester hours in cartography and related fields (geodesy, photogrammetry, oceanography, computer science), including 6-15 hours of college-level mathematics/statistics. ZP-2 requires one year specialized experience at ZP-1/GS-05 level including GIS work and nautical chart development. ZP-3 requires one year at ZP-2/GS-09 level. Permanent full-time, telework eligible, no security clearance required. Salary range: $55,924-$128,956 annually.
