Cartographic Technician

Cartographic Technician position at the U.S. Census Bureau National Processing Center in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Performs a variety of fundamental coding tasks in support of branch operations such as geocoding, editing, matching, transcribing, verifying, and reviewing. Provides verification and correction of geocoding work by applying rules specific to Census geography to determine the accuracy of coding work and the usage of the appropriate software application. Performs various functions primarily as a verifier, including geographical coding, Arc Viewing (GIS), research using geographic reference materials including paper and digital maps, atlases, zip code directories, automated files for use in problem solving, geographic allocation, determination of population and housing data, and statistical processing. Reviews various maps and automated files for geographic coverage, geographic code, clerical areas and locating, recording and correcting errors on automated data files. Performs statistical and geographic coding tasks of considerable difficulty. GS-5 level, $40,736 - $52,957 per year. Permanent, full-time. Open through 04/22/2026.
