Esri seeks a data scientist combining technical expertise with interpersonal skills to collaborate with customers on machine learning and location intelligence solutions. Prior GIS experience is not required, though candidates will work alongside GIS specialists and develop spatial analytics knowledge. Responsibilities include partnering with customers to understand their specific needs and challenges, designing and presenting data science solutions by connecting business problems to machine learning approaches, constructing analytics systems addressing customer needs through data mining, statistics, and ML techniques, authoring maintainable version-controlled code for processing large-scale and streaming data, executing feature engineering, model selection, and optimization for deployment in cloud or on-premises environments, establishing geospatial machine learning best practices and creating reusable components, and staying current with emerging technologies in machine and deep learning. Required qualifications: 1+ years professional experience, practical machine learning background, demonstrated experience with generative AI, large language models, or agentic systems, core understanding of mathematical and ML concepts, applied statistics knowledge, ML solution development preferably using Python, ability to create compelling data visualizations, strong communication skills, US citizenship with willingness to maintain security clearance, and Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, physics, or STEM field.
