Director, Conservation and Geospatial Systems

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is hiring a Director, Conservation and Geospatial Systems, based in Arlington, Virginia. The Director is responsible for all aspects of the Conservation and Geospatial Systems teams, providing management and support of the work they perform both within IT and across TNC's priorities, goals, and objectives. The teams develop requirements, architect, design, build, and support solutions consisting of specific software, cloud architecture, and data in support of a large conservation science-driven community across TNC. The position oversees custom software solutions for tracking TNC's conservation projects, Esri ArcGIS and Earth observation software solutions, AWS and Azure cloud platforms, and spatial as well as non-spatial data. Key Responsibilities: Lead teams of GIS developers, geospatial data engineers, cloud engineers, and application developers; set technical strategy for TNC's enterprise geospatial systems, including ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, and integrations with earth observation data providers; partner with TNC's Global Science team and conservation programs to translate conservation priorities into technical requirements; manage budget, vendor relationships, and agency partnerships (including Esri); oversee staffing, hiring, and professional development for direct reports; ensure systems comply with TNC data governance, security, and architecture standards; evangelize geospatial best practices across the organization. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in computer science, GIS, or a related technical field; 7+ years managing technical teams; deep experience with Esri ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, and cloud-based geospatial infrastructure; experience with AWS and/or Azure; strong understanding of spatial data management, geoprocessing automation, and Earth observation workflows; excellent leadership and cross-functional communication skills.
