The Nature Conservancy is hiring a Forest Monitoring Technician based at the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Division of Resource Management office in Cass Lake, Minnesota. This is a full-time, short-term position (40 hours/week) running from May 11 to August 7, 2026. The role involves measuring forest vegetation and site conditions in north-central Minnesota, primarily within the Chippewa National Forest and Leech Lake landscape. Specific duties include establishing monitoring plots, entering and managing forest survey data using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online platforms, coordinating data collection with conservation partners, and conducting analyses to support planning efforts. The position also involves collaborating with staff and volunteers under variable weather conditions, at remote locations, in hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances. Required qualifications include an Associate's degree in natural resources or environmental studies (or equivalent education plus six months' experience), experience managing and prioritizing multiple tasks, and a valid driver's license. Desired qualifications include multilingual abilities, field experience, budget development capability, independent judgment, and strong time management. Pay rate: $20.20 to $22.45 per hour.
