The National Trust for Historic Preservation seeks candidates for a Summer 2026 GIS Internship to support the work of the Research and Development Department (RAD), which serves a broad mandate for producing innovative research and development of data-informed deliverables in service of the activities and strategic priorities of the National Trust. The intern will engage in multiple facets of GIS including data research, collection, editing, analysis, and mapping. Specific responsibilities include conducting geospatial research and analysis, compiling and creating metadata for open data geospatial resources, creating customized web maps and map-based tools, researching and collecting GIS data on historic preservation topics, maintaining feature services and GIS content, and contributing to the creation of ArcGIS StoryMaps and web maps. Projects include supporting the Preserve Route 66 Initiative and America's Chinatowns program, mapping the National Trust's 75-year history and its impact across the country, and developing a mapping project to commemorate America 250. Requires bachelor's level studies or equivalent experience, demonstrated interest in historic preservation, cultural heritage, or qualitative GIS, proficiency in ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online. Remote internship from June 1 to July 24, 2026, approximately 28 hours per week, with a $4,000 stipend.
