UNEP/The Nairobi Convention requires the services of a national consultant - Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Specialist under the Partnership Project between the Nairobi Convention (NC) and the South West Indian Ocean Fisheries Commission (SWIOFC) for resilient marine and coastal ecosystems and livelihoods. The Consultant will use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to map the Moma and Machanga Districts in Mozambique, identifying various marine uses, overlaps, and potential areas of co-management. Key responsibilities include creating a detailed interactive atlas with maps showing physical and oceanographic data (currents, water temperature, salinity, wave data, ocean chemistry), critical habitats (coral reefs, mangroves, seagrass beds), marine protected areas and locally managed marine areas, fish species distribution and abundance, hotspots of overfishing and declines in fish stocks, pollution sources and habitat degradation zones, and climate change projections (temperature rise, ocean acidification, sea level rise). The consultant will conduct ground-truthing with community leaders on marine ecosystem protection and spatial planning, produce web maps, story maps, and interactive dashboards, and adhere to data standards using open-source technologies for public access. Requires a Master's degree in GIS, Ecology, Environmental Studies, Marine Science, or related field (or Bachelor's with 2+ years additional experience). Minimum 5 years professional experience in coastal ecosystems conservation and natural resources management. Proficiency with Geographic Information Systems (e.g. ArcGIS) required. Duration: 5 months consultancy.
