The Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey (WGNHS) at UW-Madison seeks a Researcher I Geologist to provide field and lab support to bedrock and hydrogeology research and mapping teams. This is a full-time, hybrid position (up to 2 days remote) with a salary range of $45,000-$55,000. The role involves developing and implementing increasingly complex research methodologies, collecting geological and hydrological field data, describing rock outcrops and core samples, performing geochemical sampling and analysis, conducting stream flow measurements and water quality assessments, executing GIS analysis work, and managing and reporting associated research data. The position also includes assisting with grant proposals and publications and training colleagues on research equipment and protocols. Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Geology or related field, coursework in sedimentology, petrology, structural geology, or hydrogeology, valid driver's license, Microsoft Office proficiency, and strong communication skills. Preferred qualifications include field work experience, 1+ years relevant experience or Master's degree, Wisconsin geology/hydrogeology knowledge, geologic mapping abilities, and GIS expertise. This is an initial 2-year terminal appointment through February 2028, potentially renewable based on funding.
