U-Spatial seeks a Geospatial Data Scientist to design and implement a sustainable, graph-based data infrastructure that integrates diverse research and administrative datasets across the University of Minnesota. The role involves developing a curated graph database environment (e.g., ArcGIS Knowledge, Neo4j) that represents entities such as people, projects, grants, publications, places, and outputs and models their relationships over time. Responsibilities include building robust Python-based ETL/ELT pipelines, implementing SQL transformations, harmonizing identifiers, managing slowly changing attributes, and creating repeatable ingestion workflows with testing, logging, and validation. The position supports the University's strategic goal of mapping interdisciplinary expertise and strengthening research competitiveness. Required qualifications include an advanced degree in data science, geography, GIS, informatics, or related field, demonstrated experience with graph databases (Neo4j, ArangoDB) and Cypher query language, strong proficiency in Python and SQL including production-level ETL/ELT experience, and geospatial dataset pipeline design experience. Preferred qualifications include ArcGIS Knowledge experience, AI bot development skills, PhD in relevant field, and GIS or satellite/drone imagery processing background. Hybrid work options available (not fully remote). Salary: $87,000-$105,000 annually.
