The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is hiring a Geospatial GIS Trainee (Geoscience Trainee) to support geospatial work within the Bureau of Geological Survey, focusing on creating maps, analyzing data, and updating geospatial resources used across the state. The role emphasizes hands-on experience with GIS tools and geological mapping.

Key Duties

  • Assist in creating geologic maps, cross sections, and data layers using GIS tools.
  • Learn geospatial methods and workflows from staff scientists.
  • Contribute to implementing geospatial data standards across the bureau.
  • Explore new data sources and techniques for improving mapping products.
  • Support deliverables on federally funded projects.
  • Participate in presentations and field trips.

Qualifications Required

Applicants must possess one of the following: an active Geologist-in-Training certificate issued in Pennsylvania; a bachelor's degree in geology, geophysics, or a related field with 30 or more college credits in geologic coursework; or an equivalent combination of experience and training including 30 geologic credits. Applicants within three months of graduation are eligible to apply.

Additional Requirements

Valid Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver's license and Pennsylvania residency.

Salary: $59,149.00 - $80,464.00 annually.
