Geospatial Technician - Bowling Green State University, Main Campus, Bowling Green, OH 43403 Salary Range: $46,095 - $68,566 annually (depends on qualifications) Job Number: BGSU00851 Full-Time Position Summary: The position involves managing and expanding the university's geospatial information systems, including Enterprise GIS and web applications. The technician will maintain campus datasets covering buildings, utilities, infrastructure, and serve information to campus users while managing Ohio Utilities Protection Service compliance. Essential Responsibilities: - Develop and maintain the Enterprise Geographic Information System (GIS) and web applications serving campus users - Manage comprehensive geospatial datasets including subsurface utilities (electric, gas, water, sewers, steam, fiber optic), buildings, and infrastructure - Create web-based maps and dashboards for utility and infrastructure condition data - Coordinate GIS data integration with Campus Operations' Computerized Maintenance Management System - Serve as university representative for Ohio Utilities Protection Service (OUPS) compliance per ORC Sec. 3781.28 - Field mark all BGSU-owned subsurface utilities within 48-hour timeframe using GIS data and locating equipment - Manage utility contractors and ensure regulatory compliance for fiber optic and irrigation systems - Track subsurface utility installations and conduct GPS surveys and documentation - Manage and enhance the Interactive Campus Map accessible via BGSU website - Respond to requests from Architects/Engineers to identify and document existing conditions - Provide technical support and training to campus personnel Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor's Degree (must be conferred at time of application) - 3 months professional experience using GIS technology or utility marking, OR 6 months graduate/undergraduate internship in GIS or utility marking Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas to technical peers and non-technical personnel - Demonstrated problem-solving with quick thinking ability - Independent work capability - Strong time management and organizational skills - Subsurface utility knowledge and utility protection marking experience - GPS and GIS field data collection proficiency No H-1B visa sponsorship available.
