Stewards Individual Placements, a program of Conservation Legacy, is hiring a GIS Cultural Resources and Web Mapping Steward through AmeriCorps to support the Ice Age National Scenic Trail in Wisconsin. The role focuses on geospatial interpretation that integrates geological features with Native American tribal histories along the trail's 1,200-mile span across 30 Wisconsin counties. The steward will research and compile geological data alongside tribal cultural narratives; design interactive geospatial story maps using GIS software (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, StoryMaps); develop QR code-enabled trail signage plans; ensure materials meet Section 508 accessibility compliance standards; and collaborate with subject matter experts and tribal representatives to ensure respectful and accurate cultural interpretation. Stewards are hosted in partnership with the NPS GIS office as part of a cohort of GIS stewards. Located in Cross Plains, WI. Requirements: U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency; minimum 18 years old; high school diploma or equivalent; pass federal background clearance. Preferred: degree/coursework in geology, geography, anthropology, or related fields; GIS software experience (ArcGIS, StoryMaps); research and analytical capabilities; strong communication skills; currently enrolled or within two years post-graduation from higher education.
