Island Conservation is seeking a GIS & Data Science Specialist to manage acquisition, collection, analysis, and troubleshooting of GPS, GIS, and remotely sensed data to make decisions in fast-paced, remote field environments. The role involves compiling and analyzing data from fieldwork projects, developing spatial and informational databases for scientific analysis, and supporting conservation efforts on islands worldwide. This is a full-time position based remotely with full benefits, with preference for a team member located near project sites in Chile, Peru, New Zealand, Micronesia, Polynesia, Hawaii, or Puerto Rico. The position requires extended travel (approximately 25% of time) to remote field locations and a willingness to live and work in camping-like conditions with periods of 4 to 6 weeks away from the home duty station. Candidates should have strong skills in GIS analysis, remote sensing, and data science, with experience using ArcGIS and/or QGIS for spatial analysis and mapping. Programming skills in Python or R for data processing and analysis are preferred. The ideal candidate combines technical geospatial and data science skills with a passion for biodiversity conservation and island ecosystem restoration. Salary will be commensurate with experience and geographic location of the applicant.
