GIS Intern

MassGIS, the Bureau of Geographic Information within the Executive Office of Technology Services and Security, seeks a GIS Intern for a 10-week paid summer internship (June 1 - August 7, 2026). The intern will support MassGIS's Master Address Database (MAD) enhancement work, performing quality assurance checks using SQL and spatial SQL. Duties include fixing issues in dozens of tabular QA checks and in a handful of spatial QA checks, database editing within the live production system, and outreach to local government data providers. The Master Address Database is used for 9-1-1 emergency response and planning statewide. Eligibility requirements include currently being enrolled in an accredited college/university or being a recent graduate (May 2026). Preferred qualifications include minimum two semester-long GIS courses with hands-on ESRI ArcGIS Desktop experience, ArcGIS Online proficiency, custom map design skills, strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities, and exceptional attention to detail.
