This position is located in the Resource Management Division of the National Park Service at National Capital Parks-East with a typical seasonal entry-on-duty period from April-October. The GIS Specialist designs, develops and manages geographic information systems and database management systems, implements data documentation procedures, shares GIS data as geospatial data services, and analyzes geospatial and related data for park management. Responsibilities include developing computer-based applications for database accuracy and comprehensiveness, managing Spatial Data Engine (SDE) and geodatabases, performing quality control analysis on spatial data, using Python and Model Builder for geoprocessing automation, creating field survey maps for mobile devices, and assisting with park resource planning through spatial analysis. This is a seasonal GS-9 position with salary range of $61,111-$79,443 per year. Requirements include a bachelor's degree in geography, GIS, computer science, or related field plus one year of specialized experience in GIS operations and spatial data management.
