The GIS Technician is responsible for performing routine specialized and detailed GIS mapping and analysis duties including data maintenance, map production, and geospatial analysis supporting transportation planning and civil engineering design projects using ESRI technologies. Key responsibilities include maintaining GIS databases and metadata documentation; generating maps, datasets, graphics, and reports; performing data entry, editing, and analysis; operating GIS equipment including large format printers and scanners; supporting digitization of aerial photography and satellite imagery; and addressing specific planning and environmental assessment problems. The GIS Technician develops and maintains geographic data for transportation planning and civil engineering design projects and will assist with addressing specific problems such as development of transportation planning and modeling, marketing and demographic mapping, or assessment of geologic and environmental factors. Requirements include a high school diploma or GED equivalent and four years related experience in geographic information systems or surveying. Must have valid Texas driver's license. Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, Portal, and Online required. Knowledge of Network Analyst, Cogo, and Georeference tools expected. AutoCAD and Microstation experience preferred.
