The Department of Geography at the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus invites applications for a full-time, professional-track position at the rank of Instructor to begin August 16, 2026. The successful candidate is expected to teach a range of GIS courses, including GEOG 105 – The Digital Earth, GEOG 263 – Introduction to GIS, and advanced courses such as Advanced GIS, Spatial Programming, Drones, and WebGIS.
Coursework emphasizes applications that address issues in both the physical and social environments. Instruction may include online delivery. The Department of Geography is home to the Center for GIScience and Geospatial Big Data (CeGIS), which conducts interdisciplinary research and education on Geographic Information Science and Spatial Data Science including GIS, geospatial big data, remote sensing, spatial analysis, statistics, and modeling.
Required Qualifications:
- PhD in Geography or applied GIScience by appointment start date
Preferred Qualifications:
- Teaching experience as instructor of record in GIS, Cartography, or Remote Sensing
