The Department of Geography at the University of Florida seeks a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track instructor for Geographic Information Science and GeoAI, starting August 2026. This renewable position emphasizes teaching excellence. Primary Responsibilities: Teach foundational and advanced GIS courses across undergraduate and graduate levels including Foundations of GIS, Geovisualization and Map Design, GIS Programming, Web GIS, and related advanced GIScience and GeoAI topics. The teaching load includes three courses each fall and spring and two in the summer. Develop curricula progressing from mapping basics through advanced applications using both proprietary and open-source platforms. Additional duties: course design, program development, student mentorship, recruitment, and collaboration with university resources including GeoPlan and HiPerGator high-performance computing facilities. Required Qualifications: PhD in Geography, Geographic Information Science, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field. Demonstrated university-level teaching experience in GIScience. Ability to teach foundational courses (Foundations of GIS, Geovisualization and Map Design, GIS Programming). Preferred Qualifications: Experience with multiple geospatial platforms (ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, Google Earth Engine). Online course development experience. Ability to develop advanced courses (Web GIS, geospatial modeling, field data collection). Cloud-based and high-performance computing instruction.
