This position involves collaborating with USDA NRCS and partner agencies to promote voluntary conservation programs in northwestern Minnesota. Based out of the USDA Service Center in Thief River Falls or Warren, MN, with work area including Kittson, Roseau, and Marshall counties. The biologist works in a joint capacity with Pheasants Forever (PF), USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Soil and Water Conservation Districts, and Minnesota DNR to promote, accelerate enrollment, coordinate, and implement voluntary conservation programs of the Federal Farm Bill. Responsibilities include writing conservation plans, conducting site assessments, promoting the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), assisting landowners with Reinvest in MN (RIM) conservation easements, and providing technical assistance on habitat restoration. Position involves approximately 70% office time and 30% field time. Required skills include ability to use GIS mapping programs or closely related software (ArcGIS Pro or ArcMap experience preferred), knowledge of wildlife ecology, prairie and wetland management, and plant identification.
