Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever are hiring a Mission Valley Habitat Specialist to implement habitat improvements across Mission Valley lands managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Montana Fish Wildlife & Parks, and partner organizations. This is a seasonal position from May 11 through September 30, 2026, with potential to convert to full-time permanent employment after October 1, 2026, pending funding. The Habitat Specialist will operate machinery and equipment to install grass seedings, cover crops, and wetland management projects; coordinate with federal, state, and NGO partners to deliver on-the-ground conservation outcomes; manage project timelines and budgets; maintain equipment and vehicles; and support monitoring and data collection efforts. Required qualifications include experience operating agricultural and habitat equipment (tractors, drills, sprayers), familiarity with grassland and wetland habitats of the Intermountain West, computer skills with specific familiarity required for ArcGIS, Word, and Excel, strong communication skills for working with partners and landowners, a valid driver's license, and ability to work independently in remote field settings. Salary range is $44,000-$55,000 annually based on qualifications, plus benefits including health insurance, 401(k) matching, student loan assistance, and paid time off. The position is based in Ronan, Montana.
