FAO's Land and Water Division (NSL) seeks a Remote Sensing and GIS Specialist to provide technical assistance in the use of GIS/RS in support of project teams and national and regional offices. The role involves supporting innovation in data collection through integrated approaches combining field and remote sensing, collation, standardization, analysis and reporting of geospatial data and metadata from multiple sources in support of the FAO Hand-in-Hand initiative. Responsibilities include satellite imagery assessment, image preprocessing, land cover monitoring per international standards, developing innovative tools using cloud-computing platforms (e.g., Google Earth Engine, SEPAL), and preparing technical and scientific reports. Requires an advanced degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Sciences or related field and experience in spatial data handling, satellite data processing, and GIS/remote sensing applications. Preferred skills include Python/R programming, batch-scripting, and FAO Land Cover Classification System familiarity. Non-staff consultant position up to 11 months.
