This position supports the Spatial Analysis Research Center (SPARC) and involves developing and applying machine learning methods to geospatial problems. Key responsibilities include conducting research on geospatial AI applications including deep learning for remote sensing image classification and object detection, developing novel spatial machine learning algorithms and geostatistical methods, building cloud-based geospatial processing workflows using Google Earth Engine and AWS, publishing research findings in top-tier journals and presenting at international conferences, mentoring graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, writing grant proposals to federal agencies (NSF, NASA, DOE), collaborating with interdisciplinary research teams across the university, and contributing to the development of open-source geospatial AI tools. Requirements include a PhD in geography, GIS, computer science, or related field with a focus on geospatial AI or spatial data science. Strong publication record in geospatial AI, deep learning, or spatial analysis required. Proficiency in Python, TensorFlow/PyTorch, and geospatial libraries essential.
