Watershed Protection Specialist

Orange County Government in Hillsborough, NC is seeking a Watershed Protection Specialist within the Planning Department. The position provides administrative and enforcement support for Orange County's stormwater management program. Key responsibilities include reviewing stormwater management plans, conducting inspections and certifications of stormwater control measures, managing geospatial tracking of stormwater management infrastructure via GIS, investigating regulatory violations, and potentially handling floodplain development permits and surface water identification services as delegated. Requires either a Master's degree in civil/environmental engineering, geology, earth science, or related field plus 1 year relevant experience, OR a Bachelor's degree in similar field plus 3 years experience in stormwater management, land development, erosion control, or hydraulic analyses, with demonstrated proficiency in permitting software and GIS mapping. Valid North Carolina driver's license required. Must obtain NC State University SCM Inspection & Maintenance certification within one year and NCDEQ Surface Water Identification certification within two years. Salary: $64,137 - $74,378 annually.
