This is a developmental position for a Cartographer within the Real Estate Division of the Seattle District (NWS) of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to provide cadastral and Geographic Information Support (GIS) for the USACE, Real Estate Division. Key duties: Utilize GIS and computer systems to collaborate with senior employees to plan, coordinate, and accomplish various surveying and mapping tasks. Apply technical expertise of GIS databases to modify, construct, update, and maintain geospatial data. Employ cartographic techniques and principles, land surveying, computer aided drafting and design (CADD), geodesy, project management, hydrology, geography, remote sensing, aerial photo interpretation, and computer science. Assists in the drafting of real property land descriptions and exhibit maps for use in legal instruments. Research, modify, and develop mapping products, systems, and technology. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree (or higher) in cartography, or a degree with a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography and/or directly related science (astronomy, geodesy, photogrammetry, physical and geological oceanography, computer science, land surveying, geophysics, physical geography, remote sensing). Valid driver's license required. Approximately 15% travel.
