The Chesapeake Conservancy's Conservation Innovation Center (CIC) is seeking a Conservation Data Specialist with experience leveraging machine learning (ML), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and large and complex data sets in the environmental world. The Specialist will be responsible for assisting with the development and management of a variety of projects both inside and outside the Chesapeake Bay watershed that leverage AI, big data, and cloud computing to improve environmental decision making. Responsibilities include developing and testing data visualization and analytical tools that use statistics, machine learning, and AI; processing and analyzing large geospatial and time series datasets; building workflows in Python with supporting use of JavaScript, R, or similar languages; working with SQL databases and GitHub for version control; and applying statistical modeling approaches (Bayesian, causal inference, generalized linear models) to environmental questions. Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in data science, computer science, GIS, or related field, 2-3 years of data science experience, Python proficiency, SQL familiarity, and experience with geospatial and time series data analysis. The position is based at Chesapeake Conservancy's office in Annapolis, Maryland, with a hybrid schedule requiring one day/week in-office. Salary range is $70,000-$80,000 annually plus full benefits including health/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability coverage, paid leave, and retirement plan.
