Overview: This position is within the Geospatial Science and Engineering Division of Oak Ridge National Laboratory's National Security Sciences Directorate. The role seeks nationally and internationally known science leaders with extensive research experience to lead large science programs and mentor staff. ORNL is specifically recruiting experienced applied S&T leaders aligned with strategic thrusts including Autonomy, GeoAI, Human Security, Geospatial HPC Engineering, Quantum Sensing, and Critical Infrastructure. Key Responsibilities: - Develop science strategies aligned with laboratory priorities - Maintain thought leadership through R&D programs and publications - Engage federal sponsors and develop proposals - Manage multidisciplinary teams and oversee program execution - Mentor early and mid-career scientists Strategic Focus Areas: Autonomy, GeoAI, Human Security, Geospatial HPC Engineering, Quantum Sensing, and Critical Infrastructure Minimum Qualifications: - Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in Computer Science, Data Science, Geospatial Science, Engineering, Physics, or related field - 12+ years experience (PhD) or 16+ years (Master's degree) - Proven leadership building and managing multidisciplinary teams - Track record in securing funding and leading technical research Special Requirements: Must obtain and maintain DOE Q clearance and SCI access; subject to drug testing and potential polygraph screening.
