The City of Asheville seeks candidates for a GIS Analyst role within the Water Department to input, maintain, and support water infrastructure data within geographic information systems. Essential duties: collects water system infrastructure data from GPS, imagery, and staff reports, then enters and verifies collected data into the GIS database; maintains and updates maps, identifies, inputs, and edits data points, and revises maps to correct errors and record infrastructure changes; assists with GIS database design, manipulation, and spatial queries and recommends data collection methodologies; maintains the hydraulic model and conducts fireflow modeling, coordinating with fire departments on requirements; digitizes maps, plans, and drawings by interpreting documents and recording dimensions and features; provides customer service by responding to data requests and serving as a technical resource; composes presentation-quality maps analyzing geographic data and determines map details and cartographic elements; processes department documentation including forms, reports, spreadsheets, and as-built drawings. Qualifications: bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Information Systems, or a related field with a minimum of two years (three preferred) of GIS experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid North Carolina driver's license required. Preferred: ESRI software knowledge (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online), Innovyze InfoWater familiarity, data quality verification ability, and effective interpersonal skills. Salary $50,282.36-$55,310.60 annually. Closes August 14, 2026.
