GIS Specialist II

The GIS Specialist II with the Mississippi Forestry Commission serves as a second-level professional responsible for geospatial data analysis and management. Key responsibilities include developing spatial overlays, performing geostatistical analysis, and geocoding. The role involves working with the GIS Director to plan, design and implement procedures that improve GIS responsiveness and access. Primary Duties: Manage enterprise geodatabases using relational database technologies; configure and maintain web-based GIS applications across multiple platforms; administer user accounts across multiple systems; utilize drone and GPS technology for field data collection; create detailed maps, story maps, and project presentations; provide technical training and support to staff and users; manage spatial databases supporting forest management projects; assist with FAA drone registrations and fleet inventory. Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree required; 1-3 years GIS experience preferred; proficiency with ESRI products including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online; SQL/SDE management experience; strong verbal and written communication skills; willingness to work outdoors in varying conditions and occasional travel. Salary Range: $44,954.11-$67,498.59 annually.
