The Wisconsin Historical Society seeks a GIS Technician - Historic Preservation Specialist to conduct professional research activities under the direction of the Field Coordinator, with emphasis on managing GIS data and creating graphics for the Cultural Resource Services division's work on archaeological and architectural properties. Responsibilities: Duties encompass processing field research including GPS survey data, digital imagery, and field documentation. The position maintains mapping standards while resolving project-specific challenges, collaborates with field researchers and authors, and explores technological improvements to mapping and illustration processes. Additionally, the incumbent organizes and maintains GIS metadata storage and may participate in limited field research activities. This is a full-time, four-year project position ending May 5, 2030. Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must possess coursework in GIS, cultural resources, geography, geology, or civil engineering; experience with ESRI ArcGIS programs; proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Office; GPS surveying experience (e.g., Trimble); knowledge of GIS principles; and ability to interpret blueprints, engineering plans, maps, and historical documents. Preferred Qualifications: Strong candidates demonstrate effective communication with diverse professionals, visual information presentation skills, record organization experience, historic preservation field research background, and familiarity with federal and state historic preservation standards. Salary: $24.00 - $28.00 per hour.
