Definition: Under general supervision, performs routine to complex technical Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and drafting work on assigned engineering/mapping related projects; updates and maintains GIS/mapping data and system; performs related duties as required. Class Characteristics: This position is responsible for data entry and maintaining the Geographical Information System databases for engineering and related documents. Supervision Exercised and Received: This position is directly supervised by the Asset Management Supervisor. It does not supervise any staff. Essential Functions include, but are not limited to, the following: Interprets engineering plans, as-built documents, plat maps, legal descriptions, and related records to create, edit, maintain, and update GIS assets, datasets, metadata, data dictionaries, drafting records, and as-built documentation. Conducts spatial/surface analysis; researches, integrates, validates, and maintains geographic and spreadsheet/chart data from public and private sources; ensures GIS data accuracy and integrity through quality control processes; and coordinates GIS and asset data updates with CMMS and asset management systems. Produces maps, graphics, charts, technical drawings, engineering reports, final map products, and large-format reproductions for District departments, the Board of Directors, and external agencies; prepares and provides GIS data and mapping updates as required. Maintains, and participates in the testing, debugging, and implementation of, GIS applications and related software; conducts GIS needs assessments; collaborates with staff to identify and provide required data; and trains users through presentations, tutorials, and technical support. Maintains and catalogs as-built files, mylars, records, and correspondence; operates and maintains plotters, copiers, graphics equipment, and related software; manages supplies and coordinates equipment repairs. Performs duties in a timely and professional manner and works well with others or in a team setting.
