The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is hiring a GIS Technician.

Essential duties

  • update and standardize wildlife-related GIS data layers;
  • interpret boundary descriptions to create or edit spatial boundaries;
  • verify geometry, attribute data and metadata accuracy;
  • produce maps as assigned;
  • document procedures and workflows;
  • complete GIS projects including web maps and mobile data collection applications; and
  • provide GIS technical support and workflow guidance for Department biologists.

Preferred qualifications: a Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Geospatial Technologies, or a related field, and experience with Esri's suite of geospatial solutions including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.

Required knowledge

GIS concepts, data acquisition, spatial organization, projections, and cartography; hands-on experience navigating and utilizing the core toolsets within ArcGIS Pro; vector data creation and editing skills; topology rules understanding; cartography and map design; metadata documentation abilities; aerial photography interpretation; ArcGIS Online familiarity; Microsoft Excel proficiency; and strong organizational and communication skills.

Employment duration through June 30, 2027, with possible renewal through June 30, 2028. Salary $27.39 per hour. Open until filled. Job number 2026-01822.
