Rice University's Baker Institute seeks a Postdoctoral Scholar in Advanced Sensemaking as part of the Center for Advanced Space Sensing Technologies (CASST), a U.S. Space Force-funded Space Strategic Technology Institute led by Rice. The Postdoctoral Scholar will lead the development of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) models, datasets, compute workflows, and visualization tools to analyze quantum sensing and hyperspectral imaging data. Required expertise includes computer vision, remote sensing, or geospatial analytics, as well as hyperspectral imaging and quantum sensing. The Scholar will be mentored by Baker Institute Fellow Kenneth Evans and collaborate with CASST faculty from the Rice Space Institute, Weiss School of Natural Sciences, and the George R. Brown School of Engineering, as well as external partners at UCLA, UC Santa Barbara, Georgia Tech, and Aegis Aerospace. Preferred qualifications include experience in reinforcement learning, GPU computing, AI deployment in resource-constrained environments, or hyperspectral/quantum imaging technologies. Initial 3-year position structured as renewable 1-year terms. Ph.D. required; visa sponsorship unavailable.
