SCA Invasive Species and GIS Prairie Internship

The Student Conservation Association, hosting at Valentine National Wildlife Refuge in Nebraska's Sandhills, offers a paid GIS-focused prairie conservation internship. The position focuses on controlling invasive Eastern Red Cedar trees that threaten Sandhill Prairie and wetland habitats, using cutting and digging with hand tools, ATV-mowing equipment, and herbicide application. The primary responsibility (60%) is documenting locations and treatments applied to invasive trees using GPS and GIS technology; the secondary focus (40%) includes plant monitoring, grazing program assessment, invasive species control, habitat mapping, and other biological surveys. Requirements include a valid driver's license, age 16-30 (veterans up to 35), and U.S. work authorization; GIS experience is advantageous.
