The O'Connor Center for the Rocky Mountain West at the University of Montana is hiring a Wetland Photo Interpreter / GIS Technician. This temporary position (4-6 months) involves creating geospatial wetland and riparian datasets using ArcGIS Pro to digitize polygons on aerial imagery and classify them per USFWS National Wetlands Inventory standards.
Responsibilities:
- Digitize wetland and riparian polygons from aerial imagery in ArcGIS Pro
- Classify features according to National Wetlands Inventory (NWI) classification standards
- Perform QA/QC and data quality checks on geospatial datasets
- Coordinate with project lead on classification edge cases
- Document workflows and produce summary deliverables
Qualifications:
- Coursework in GIS and Ecology or related field
- Experience digitizing in GIS software (ArcGIS Pro preferred)
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently
- Familiarity with aerial photo interpretation a plus
