The Department of Geography at the University of Zurich is offering a fully funded 4-year PhD position on multi-temporal forest canopy height reconstruction from satellite data (80%). Tasks and responsibilities: process and analyse large archives of optical stereo satellite imagery; develop and improve photogrammetric workflows for DSM and CHM generation; generate and validate multi-temporal canopy height models; analyze long-term forest structural dynamics and disturbance processes; publish research and present at international conferences; and contribute to departmental teaching activities. Requirements: candidates must hold an MSc in photogrammetry, remote sensing, geomatics, geodesy, physical geography, environmental sciences, computer science, or a related field. Essential experience or strong interest in satellite and airborne remote sensing, stereo photogrammetry, commercial satellite imagery, LiDAR, geospatial processing, or scientific programming in Python, R, Julia, or Matlab. Optional qualifications include point cloud processing, computer vision, machine learning, forest science, Linux and Git, open-source geospatial tools, and strong communication skills.
